Complaint Summary

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

Owner Narrative

WE WERE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 83 HEADING NORTH PAST BALTIMORE WHEN WE SMELLED A BURNING BRAKE SMELL - WE PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF 83 AND THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE CALIBER HAD STUCK AND WOULD NOT RELEASE - THE RUBBER DUST BOOT CAUGHT FIRE - THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE CRACKED AND BEGAN TO MELT DUE TO THE HEAT - WE EXTINGUISHED IT WITH THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER. AFTER LETTING THE BRAKE COOL FOR A HOUR WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT OFF THE EXIT TO A SIDE ROAD. THIS IS THE SECOND BRAKE CALIBER THAT HAS GONE BAD ON THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST BEING IN JULY 2008 ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. WE PURCHASED THE PARTS AT BILL'S AUTO AND TRUCK REPAIR IN GWYNN OAK, MD - INVOICE NUMBER 10847 TOTALING $670.25 FOR PARTS. WHEN I CALLED WORKHORSE THEY SAID THAT THE RECALL NOTICES HAVE BEEN SENT OUT AND OUR MOTOR HOME IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND WE SHOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL NOTICE WITHIN 30 DAYS. WE CALLED MILLERS REPAIR IN BELTSVILLE AND THEY SAID THAT RECALL NUMBER 50901-C WAS LISTED BUT THE PARTS AREN'T DUE IN UNTIL SEPT - OCT 2009. THE MOTOR HOME IS UN-DRIVABLE DUE TO THIS DEFECT AND I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE REPAIRED RIGHT AWAY. WE HAVE MANY CAMPING PLANS FOR THE SUMMER AND DO NOT WANT TO WASTE AND ENTIRE SUMMER DUE TO THE WORKHORSE DEFECT. 2003 CHALLENGER MOTOR . ANY HELP / INFORMATION OR DIRECTION YOU COULD GIVE US WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *TR UPDATED 05/08/09
