Owner Narrative
Complainant: [XXX] Vehicle: 2020 Ford Edge VIN: [XXX] Current Mileage: Approx. 152,000 miles Target of Complaint: Ford Motor Company / [Don Chalmers Ford] Subject: Request for Goodwill Financial Assistance Due to Documented, Inherent Transmission Manufacturing Defect I am filing this dispute to request financial assistance/cost-sharing from Ford Motor Company for a total transmission failure on my 2020 Ford Edge. While the vehicle is past its standard powertrain warranty, the failure is directly caused by an inherent manufacturing defect that Ford has internally acknowledged and documented. The dealership has quoted $9,000 for a full replacement, an unreasonable financial burden for a known, pre-existing mechanical flaw. The vehicle is experiencing severe shifting difficulties, specifically when attempting to transition the vehicle out of Park into any other gear. A formal diagnostic inspection conducted by the authorized Ford dealership confirmed a total transmission failure. Crucially, the dealership verified that the vehicle's symptoms and mechanical failures match Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 857 / 20-2190 (tel:857%20/%2020-2190). This internal Ford bulletin specifically addresses harsh engagements, shifting faults, and component degradation within this vehicle's transmission model. The dealership initially denied financial assistance because this vehicleâs specific VIN is not included in safety recall Campaign 20S47. I wish to clarify that I am not arguing a violation of a safety recall. I understand that Campaign 20S47 is a narrow, VIN-specific safety mandate. Instead, my case rests on the fact that the dealershipâs own diagnostics verified the exact mechanical failure described in Fordâs internal Technical Service Bulletins. A TSB proves that Ford is fully aware of a widespread, systemic manufacturing defect in these units. The exclusion of my VIN from a safety recall does not negate the fact that my vehicle suff INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552
