Owner Narrative
The contact owns a 2019 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE450. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, there was an abnormal banging sound coming from the roof. While looking in the rear-view mirror, the contact saw a dislodged trim piece striking a vehicle behind. After stopping to inspect the vehicle the contact discovered that the plastic front roof panel trim piece had detached from the vehicle. No further info was available regarding the second vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V854000 (STRUCTURE). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 52,000.
