Owner Narrative
I am writing regarding a very serious and frightening safety incident involving my 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5. While driving through a busy intersection in California, the vehicle displayed the warning message: âStop vehicle and check power supply.â Within approximately one minute of that warning appearing, the vehicle completely lost power and became inoperable in the middle of the intersection. The shutdown occurred without warning and created an extremely dangerous situation. The vehicleâs hazard lights would not function because the car appeared to be entirely without power. Traffic continued moving around me while I was stranded in the intersection, and I genuinely feared that another vehicle could collide with me. I ultimately called 911 because the situation was unsafe and I could not move the vehicle. Police responded and directed traffic until the vehicle could be towed. Hyundai dealership had the vehicle for 22 days and diagnosed it as a faulty ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) which they replaced for no charge. This incident has caused me to lose confidence in the safety and reliability of this vehicle. A complete loss of propulsion in active traffic â especially accompanied by failure of the hazard system â is an unacceptable safety risk. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. Hyundai of America would not let me cancel the lease early due to safety concerns.
