Owner Narrative
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle skidded for approximately 25 feet. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that due to the failure, another vehicle was almost rear-ended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with HCU failure. The contact was informed that the HCU needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that parts were not available to repair the vehicle. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
