Owner Narrative
The contact owns a 2015 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at speeds under 20 MPH and making a right turn, the power steering failed, and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. During the failure the message "Service Power Steering" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while reversing and making a left turn. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering rack was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet contacted. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (STEERING). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.
