SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

Owner Narrative

The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, there was a loud sound coming from the vehicle and there was smoke coming from under the hood. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact researched online and became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that after waiting approximately two weeks, an appointment was scheduled for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for the recall repair, and the contact was informed that the brake module needed to be replaced but was not included in the recall repair. The contact was informed that the repair would be an out-of-pocket expense. The recall repair was performed; however, the brake module was not replaced. The contact stated that the reason the brake module needed to be replaced was because of the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 173,000.
