Owner Narrative
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. Additionally, the contact engaged the electronic parking brake, but the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he pumped the brake pedal until the vehicle responded. The contact drove to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS hydraulic control unit had failed. The dealer determined that the brake booster, the brake master cylinder, and the ABS hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 229,000.
