Complaint Summary

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

Owner Narrative

The contact's father-in-law owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that upon refueling the vehicle, her father-in-law noticed that fuel was leaking on the rear passenger side tire. The contact's husband then verified that fuel was leaking from the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank was fractured and needed to be replaced. The dealer diagnosed and determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V793000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken for State Inspection, where it was diagnosed with evaporated emission system leak related to the canister purge valve. The contact's husband replaced the canister purge valve; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000
