Owner Narrative
I bought a 2007 Toyota Tundra less than 3 months ago from Toyota of Simi Valley. 2 months ago my check engine light and other warning lights suddenly went on while I was driving and my truck went into âlimp modeâ while merging onto a freeway, causing other drivers to swerve around me to avoid a collision. I took the truck back to Toyota and they advised the Air injection pump and air control valve need to be replaced. Total cost to repair is almost $4,000. I purchased at Bronze level extended warranty which covers up to 24,000 miles but the insurance carrier denied the claim saying these items are excluded, despite these items not being listed on their âexcluded items listâ. Toyota then offered to pay 1/2 the total cost of repairs, which in of itself is an admission of guilt. Iâve only made 2 payments on the vehicle, I should not be responsible for these repairs. I took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who advised Toyotaâs assessment is correct, however, it should only cost $2k to fix the vehicle, not $4k. The mechanic also advised of an emission system issue and that this vehicle will not pass smog at this time.
