Methodology

How this dataset is derived.

States are grouped by the reporting jurisdiction on each FMCSA MCMIS Crash record. Fatal, injury, and tow-away counts come from the official crash report; tow-away is derived from the disabling-damage flag. Jurisdictions with fewer than 10 reported crashes are excluded so single-event noise does not dominate the table.
