Insurance check
BIPD/BMC-91 liability, cargo filings, history gaps, and insurance-lapse watch tier — beyond the three-check ready-to-operate snapshot.
How to run insurance check
- Enter carrier USDOT or MC — Same resolver as ready-to-operate and book-check.
- Read liability on file — Active BMC-91/BIPD rows plus recent history.
- Review cargo filings — BMC-34/83 when present — not required for all freight.
- Note watch tier — CRITICAL/Elevated rules live on /insurance-watch/ — not an FMCSA rating.
- Verify before hauling — Public L&I only — not a shipper COI.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How is Insurance Check deeper than Ready to Operate?
- Ready to Operate is three yes/no filing signals (ACTIVE authority, liability on file, BOC-3). Insurance Check adds BIPD history gaps, cargo BMC-34/83 filings, insurance-lapse watch tier, and recent liability rows.
- What are CRITICAL / Elevated watch tiers?
- Derived instability scores from BMC-91 cancellation and replacement patterns in the last 12 months. Rules are documented on /insurance-watch/ — not an FMCSA safety rating.
- Does this replace a certificate of insurance (COI)?
- No. We show public L&I filings only, not shipper COIs or RMIS packet depth. Verify coverage with your agent and FMCSA before hauling.
- Why is my lookup result page noindex?
- Personalized ?q= pages use noindex, follow. The empty form URL stays indexable so search engines find the tool, not every USDOT permutation.
- How fresh is FMCSA data on TruckCodex?
- We refresh from nightly FMCSA imports. Check /meta/freshness/ or freshness badges on linked desks — not real-time L&I.
- Can I get email alerts when my insurance or authority changes?
- Not yet. TruckCodex is shipping free lookup tools first; portfolio email digests and saved filters are on the roadmap (Wave D alerts). Bookmark this page or re-run your USDOT until push alerts launch.
