Owner Narrative
A trailer hitch manufactured by Weigh Safe (Linden Utah) experienced a failure which nearly caused separation of the towed trailer. There is an apparent design flaw with this hitch that needs to be remedied. One of three bolts which holds the hitch together fractured. This led to the adjacent bolt bending with associated metal fatigue. This caused the hitch to become unstable. Further failure would have resulted in hitch and trailer separation from the tow vehicle. The design of this hitch appears flawed, and needs to be investigated.
