Owner Narrative
NHTSA Recall No. 22V-308. Defective quick disconnect fitting on LP gas system. Pursuant to the recall notice, on [XXX], I took my 2022 Grand Design Reflection 226RK into the dealership where purchased, Lazy Days in Woodland, WA. The quick disconnect fitting was inspected and determined to be okay ("No problem found."). On [XXX], while vacationing with family in the 5th Wheel in Newport, OR, I detected the odor of propane outside the RV. I found the leak at the quick disconnect fitting that had split (photos available). I removed the defective fitting and replaced it with a new one purchased at an Ace Hardware in Newport, OR. It is also important to note that we had never used the quick disconnect fitting. This defective fitting is located directly beneath the water heater and furnace, so yes, my family and I were at extreme risk had the leaking propane found its way into the water heater or furnace. I shudder to think how many of these defective quick disconnect fittings are still in thousands of Grand Design RV's across the Country. These defective fittings should have been recalled and replaced by Grand Design. Thank you.
