TIRES:TREAD/BELT
Owner Narrative
ST235/80R16 tires on my 2020 Merhow Trailer with less than 5,000 miles had 2 tire failures, both within 5 miles of each other. The first tire failure was addressed on the roadside by changing tire with spare. The second failure was on the other side of the trailer and required emergency roadside assistance at which time 4 new tires were installed. Both tires failed in exactly the same spot on the sidewall and then experienced tread separation. The failure location on both was along grooves that are located on the inside of the tire. Emergency roadside tire repair technician indicated it appeared to be a defect in the tire lot. There was slight damage to the trailer due to the tread separation. This put myself, the horses on my trailer and the rest of the drivers on the highway at risk. Tires were always inspected prior to use and tire presure was at manufacturers settings. There were no visible indications of impending tire failure to myself of the tire technician upon inspection.
